Choosing template
Blog template is quite important. It depends on what type of blog are you creating now. For example, if you want to create a blog about anime (japanese cartoon), your template should looks refreshing and friendly, but maybe not to look too serious.
If you want to create a blog about some sorts of guidelines to something like my blog, http://adsense-help.blogspot.com, you might want it to look more professional as this will build some trust in your visitor that you are the best person to refer to.
There are several other things to consider:-
1. Make it easy to read
2. Don't make it overcrowded with other stuff like pictures, videos and adds
3. Make sure everything is easy to reach. For example, use sidebar or other navigation bar
